What it does
Internal Comms gives Claude a set of format templates for the recurring written updates that circulate inside a company: 3P (Progress, Plans, Problems) team updates, company newsletters, FAQ responses, status reports, leadership updates, project updates, and incident reports. When you ask Claude to write one of these, the skill picks the matching template from its examples/ directory and follows the formatting, tone, and section-order rules for that document type. It is most useful when a team has settled on a specific update format and wants every draft to match it without re-explaining the structure each time.
Use cases
- Draft a weekly 3P update by pasting raw notes from standups and letting Claude structure them into the Progress / Plans / Problems format the team already uses.
- Turn an incident timeline into a post-mortem or status report for leadership, with the sections and tone that match your company’s existing incident-report examples.
- Write a company newsletter or FAQ response from bullet-point source material, keeping voice and section layout consistent with previous editions.
When to use it
- You need to write one of the covered document types: 3P update, newsletter, FAQ, status report, leadership update, project update, or incident report.
- Your organization has a preferred format and you want every draft to match it.
- You have the raw source material (notes, timelines, metrics) and want Claude to shape it, not invent it.
When NOT to use it
- External communications — press releases, customer emails, marketing copy — the templates are tuned to internal audiences.
- One-off document types not covered by the four template files (3P, newsletter, FAQ, general). Claude will ask for clarification rather than guess.
- When you want to define a brand-new company format — the skill applies its bundled templates rather than learning yours from scratch. Fork and edit the
examples/files instead.

Prompt
Use the internal-comms skill to draft this week's 3P update for the platform team based on these notes. Troubleshooting
Claude writes a generic update instead of following the 3P format. Say the document type explicitly in your prompt (“write a 3P update” rather than “summarize this week”). The skill routes to a template file based on the type you name.
The output uses a format that doesn’t match your team’s actual conventions. The templates in the examples/ directory are the source of truth. Edit those files in your local copy of the skill to match your company’s real conventions, then reinstall.
Claude asks for clarification instead of drafting. This happens when the request doesn’t map to one of the four covered types (3P, newsletter, FAQ, general). Either specify which existing template to use or provide enough context for Claude to fall back to the general-comms template.
