Claude Design: Anthropic Adds Visual Design and Prototyping Directly Inside Claude

Anthropic launched Claude Design, a new tool for creating polished designs, prototypes, slides, and one-pagers through conversation with Claude.

Anthropic just shipped Claude Design — a new product under its Anthropic Labs umbrella that turns Claude into a visual design collaborator. You describe what you want, Claude generates polished layouts: slide decks, one-pagers, prototypes, marketing assets. No Figma. No Canva. Just a conversation.

The tool is live now at anthropic.com.

What happened

Claude Design lets users create visual work — designs, prototypes, presentations, and documents — by collaborating with Claude in natural language. It sits inside Anthropic Labs, the company’s experimental product arm, alongside features like Claude artifacts and analysis tools.

The key shift: Claude isn’t just generating code or text anymore. It’s producing finished visual output you can iterate on through conversation. Ask for a pitch deck, get slides with layout, typography, and color choices. Ask for a landing page mockup, get a rendered prototype.

This positions Claude as a direct competitor to design-adjacent AI tools like Gamma (for presentations), Beautiful.ai, and even lightweight Figma workflows for early-stage mockups.

NOTE

Claude Design launched under Anthropic Labs, which Anthropic uses for experimental features. This means the product may evolve quickly or change scope — it’s not a locked-in, stable product line yet.

Why it matters

Most AI coding tools stop at code. Most AI design tools stop at templates. Claude Design sits in the gap: it handles the visual thinking that happens before you open a code editor or a design tool.

Three concrete implications:

Prototyping speed. Developers doing vibe coding — building apps by describing them to AI — now have a visual counterpart. Describe a dashboard layout to Claude, get a designed version back, then move to Cursor or Bolt to build it. The feedback loop between “what should this look like” and “build it” just got shorter.

Non-designers get design output. Solo founders, indie hackers, and backend developers who currently hack together slides in Google Docs or skip visual polish entirely now have a tool that produces presentation-quality work from a text prompt.

Anthropic’s product surface is expanding fast. Claude started as a chat model. Then came artifacts (interactive code output), computer use, and now visual design. Anthropic is building a general-purpose work tool, not just an API.

TIP

If you’re already using Claude for coding via artifacts, try Claude Design for the visual layer first — wireframes, pitch decks, feature one-pagers — then feed those into your coding workflow. The two features complement each other directly.

Who should care

Vibe coders and solo builders who prototype by talking to AI and need visual assets without switching to Figma or hiring a designer.

Startup teams producing investor decks, product one-pagers, or marketing pages who want a first draft in minutes instead of hours.

Developers building client-facing work who need to present ideas visually before writing code — freelancers, agency devs, consultants.

Designers with deep Figma expertise probably won’t replace their workflow. But for the 80% of visual work that doesn’t need pixel-level control, Claude Design removes a tool from the stack.

IMPORTANT

Claude Design is an Anthropic Labs product, not a core Claude feature. Availability, pricing, and capabilities may differ from the main Claude offering. Check your plan’s access level before building a workflow around it.

Practical takeaway

Open Claude, try generating a one-pager or slide deck for a current project. Test the iteration loop: how well does Claude respond to “make the header bolder” or “swap to a dark theme”? The value of this tool lives in the back-and-forth, not the first output. If the conversation-to-design cycle feels fast enough, it replaces your mockup step entirely.
