GitHub documented the slash commands powering the Copilot app — and /plan and /orchestrate are the two that change how you work, not just how fast you type. The full guide covers commands for planning, PR management, and cross-repo coordination.
The commands worth knowing:
/plan [PROMPT]— Switches to Plan mode, optionally seeded with a prompt. Maps an approach before code gets written./orchestrate [PROMPT]— Coordinates work across sessions or repositories. Ships as a built-in skill./pr-fix-checks— Requires an open PR with failing checks. Runs a targeted prompt to address them.
Type / in the Copilot app to surface the full list. Commands are context-aware — /pr-fix-checks won’t fire without an open PR, and /plan shifts the interaction mode rather than just injecting a prompt string.
Cursor uses @-mentions for context injection. Claude Code relies on CLI flags. GitHub’s bet is different: slash commands as a first-class interaction mode with mode-switching built in.
NOTE
Slash commands in the Copilot app differ from the CLI set. The CLI has its own commands (/clear, /session) documented separately. Don’t assume parity between the two surfaces.
Start with /plan and /orchestrate — they’re the commands that restructure your workflow. The rest are conveniences. Full reference lives in the GitHub docs.
