JavaScript AI Build-a-thon: Microsoft's Free 4-Week AI Program Returns for Season 2

Microsoft launched Season 2 of its JavaScript AI Build-a-thon, a free four-week program covering local AI, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent systems for JS/TS developers.

Microsoft’s JavaScript AI Build-a-thon Season 2 launched today — a free, four-week hands-on program built specifically for JavaScript and TypeScript developers who want to build AI features into their stack. The program runs through a structured curriculum that moves from local AI setups to RAG pipelines to a multi-agent hackathon at the end.

The curriculum is practical, not lecture-heavy. Participants work through building local AI applications, constructing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and culminate in a multi-agent hackathon. Each week layers on the previous one, so by week four you’re combining techniques rather than learning them in isolation. The entire program targets the JS/TS ecosystem directly — no switching to Python required.

TIP

If you’ve been building AI prototypes in Python but ship production code in TypeScript, this is a structured way to close that gap without context-switching between languages.

The timing matters. JavaScript’s AI tooling has matured fast — Vercel’s AI SDK, LangChain.js, and local inference options like Transformers.js have all shipped major updates in 2025. A structured program that walks through RAG and multi-agent patterns using these tools fills a gap that most JS developers have been patching together from scattered blog posts and GitHub repos.

The program is free and open to anyone. If you write JavaScript or TypeScript professionally and haven’t built a RAG pipeline or experimented with multi-agent orchestration yet, this is a low-friction entry point with a clear four-week timeline.
