Vercel’s new v0 API gives you headless access to its app-building agent. Send a prompt, get back a running app with a live preview URL — no chat UI required.
The API is now generally available. You install the v0 SDK and create a chat with a prompt. v0 generates the app, boots a dev server in a Vercel Sandbox, and returns a preview URL for your own UI.
What each chat provides:
- Isolated workspace — one app per chat; v0 reads, edits, and runs files
- Live preview URL — embeddable in your own interface
- Stateful follow-ups — subsequent messages continue from current app state
- Self-healing code — v0 verifies the running app in the Sandbox and fixes errors in real time
VMs power the Sandbox runtime, replacing v0’s earlier browser-based execution model. Three execution modes are exposed as separate endpoints: sync, async, and streaming — so you can pick the right pattern for blocking calls, background jobs, or live-updating UIs.
NOTE
Over 4 million people have used v0 since its general availability in 2024. The API exposes that same agent programmatically — same generation quality, minus the chat interface.
The core workflow is three steps: install the SDK, create a chat from a prompt, then send follow-up messages to iterate. Each follow-up continues from the current state of the app, so you can build incrementally without re-sending context.
Available now — SDK setup and API reference are live at v0.app.
