Adobe just shipped conversational AI editing across five apps at once. Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign, and Frame.io each got a bespoke Firefly AI Assistant in public beta — not a generic chatbot bolted on, but an agent that can drive the actual tools inside each app.
The pitch: describe what you want in plain language, and the assistant orchestrates multi-step workflows you’d normally click through manually. Adobe calls it a “creative agent” — one conversational interface that maps to the full power of each app’s feature set.
What each app gets:
- Photoshop — chat-based editing that can chain selections, adjustments, and generative fills from a single prompt
- Premiere — natural-language video edits, cutting the back-and-forth of timeline scrubbing for routine tasks
- Illustrator — vector-specific assistant for layout and object manipulation
- InDesign — document-level operations driven by conversation
- Frame.io — collaboration and review workflows accessible through the same interface
This isn’t Adobe’s first AI feature — Firefly generative fill has been in Photoshop since 2023. The difference is scope. Previous features were point tools: click a button, get one output. The assistant is agentic — it interprets intent, picks the right tools, and executes sequences across the app. You act as creative director; it acts as operator.
The competitive pressure is real. Free AI tools now cover image editing, video, and vector work — and they’re getting better monthly. Adobe’s bet is that professionals won’t leave apps where their files, plugins, and muscle memory already live, especially if an AI layer removes the tedious parts.
NOTE
This is a public beta, not a stable release. Adobe hasn’t confirmed final pricing or whether the assistant will require a separate Firefly subscription tier beyond existing Creative Cloud plans.
Available now in public beta across all five apps. Creative Cloud subscribers can opt in — no separate download, the assistant lives inside each app’s existing interface.
