Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s agent for general knowledge work, ships on mobile and web today — ending its four-month confinement to desktop apps.
The expansion brings several concrete changes:
- Max subscribers get first access; other Claude plans roll out “in the coming weeks”
- Cross-device sync — long-running tasks started on desktop can be monitored from a phone
- Enterprise connectors and plugins launched alongside, letting companies plug Cowork into existing workflows
- Previously available only on macOS and Windows desktop since its January 12, 2026 launch
Anthropic’s own usage data drove the move. Most Claude users aren’t writing code in a terminal — Claude Code serves developers. Cowork targets the far larger population of knowledge workers who need an agent that can sort through screenshots, build spreadsheets, and handle office tasks with the same autonomy Claude Code brings to vibe coding.
When Cowork first launched in January, it rattled software and legal-tech stocks. The mobile and web expansion pushes further into that territory — a phone-based agent that works autonomously on office tasks is a different competitive threat than a desktop app that requires you to be at your computer.
NOTE
Cowork works by giving Claude access to a specific folder on your device. Anthropic hasn’t detailed how folder access translates to iOS or Android yet — the mobile scope may be more constrained than desktop.
Available now for Max subscribers at claude.com and in the Claude mobile app. Free and Pro plan access follows in the coming weeks.
