Vercel’s Chat SDK now ships a vendor-official Dial adapter, bringing SMS, MMS, iMessage, and voice-call transcripts into the same thread-based architecture that already powers Slack, Teams, and WhatsApp bots.
What the adapter handles:
- SMS, MMS, iMessage — send and receive on a real phone number with bidirectional media
- Voice call transcripts — inbound calls get transcribed and posted to the conversation thread when the call ends
- HMAC-verified webhooks — secure inbound delivery, no signature verification to hand-roll
- Standard thread/message APIs — subscriptions, handlers, posts, and per-thread state work identically to every other Chat SDK adapter
Each phone conversation maps to a Chat SDK thread. Texts and media arrive as messages on that thread; voice-call transcripts land there too. Existing handler logic and per-thread state management carry over without adapter-specific code.
The adapter joins a roster that already covers Slack, Discord, Telegram, GitHub, Linear, Google Chat, and WhatsApp — all through the same unified TypeScript interface.
NOTE
Dial (getdial.ai) is a telecom-focused messaging platform. Don’t confuse it with DIAL/DIALX, the separate enterprise AI chat application — the Chat SDK adapter targets Dial’s phone-number API.
Available now. Read the Dial integration docs to get started, or the Vercel changelog post for the full announcement.
